My escape!

Sunday was my escape day.  Here's a shot of me at the shelter:

Sad and skinny.  (Truth be told: I was putting on my best pathetic-homeless-puppy face)
Volunteers said I was one of the quiet pups at the shelter.  One who didn't bark and jump when people walked by.  Volunteers thought potential adopters were just passing me by since I didn't bother to make a big 'ol scene and get myself noticed.  Really, I was so tired and scared, I just felt like sleeping and laying in the back of my kennel.  But when a volunteer took me out, I wiggled, and gave kisses, and liked to snuggle up (and, of course, be puppy-style-excited to get out of that shelter building).

More after the break!

Then, Sunday came!  That nasty Irene storm was just passing and a shelter volunteer had me out of my kennel to celebrate the end of the storm.  When the Lost Dog people got there, I was snuggling up with my volunteer friend out on the lawn, not minding the wind and rain.  The Lost Dog people met me and played with me and had me interact with some other dogs.  Of course, I loved all their games!  After meeting a bunch of other shelter pups, they decided to take me to a Lost Dog foster home!  I was pretty darned happy.  I leaped up into that car, curled up in my transport crate and dreamed of happier days ahead!

Pretty sleepy ... that shelter was stressful!
I loved the car ride home.  We got to stop in Del-a-ware and I met a boy on the way home from his vacation.  I sat on his lap outside the rest stop for a while and licked his chin.  I thought, things must be getting better!

Then it was back in the car to Virginia!

Hey - I see a lap up there!  Am I not invited?
There was more to my rescue day, including a not-so-fun bath, some great romp time with my foster brother, and an eventful evening walk.  But I'll tell you all about that later!

The southern edge of Irene - on the way back to Virginia.  Brighter days ahead!
